Apr 16, 2015 Here is a Savage model 29 question, do the 29 As & Bs have a A or B stamped on them, Like 29A or 29B? I have been looking at pictures of them and I don't see any As or Bs. Here is what I got Savage model 29, serial #2459, 23' octagon barrel, ribbed fore arm, and a plain butt stock. It also came with 2 rails each about 1.5' long. I dont know of a particular serial number breakdown for the Savage Model 29. A good rule of thumb for that model is that octagon barrels are pre-WW2, round barrels after. Value is based on condition. The 'L' suffix on your serial # indicates your model 29 is a Savage, not a Stevens or 'house brand model 29. The model 29 post WW II serial #s went from 4x,xxx to 5x,xxx and then the serial #s went to an 'Alpha code'. Given the above I would recommend the following. American Rifleman (July, 1980; page 28) contains a very different set of dates for serial numbers through 193000. Jul 29, 2013 The Savage Model 29, if this is truly what you have, was the first catalogued version of the Model 29 with the 29A and the 29 B following. All of the 29's had octagon bbls, some of the 29A's did, and none of the B's did.
